Retired Foothill and Tustin High Schools’ principal Jim Turner passed away on Jan. 19. He was 89 years old.
Turner started his career in education in 1959 as an elementary teacher in the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. He also served as an assistant principal in that district.
Turner came to the Tustin Unified School District in 1972, and worked in the district for 15 years. He served as principal of A.G. Currie Middle School for seven years (1972-79); principal of Tustin High School for five years (1979-84); and principal of Foothill High School for three years (1984-87). He retired in 1987. During his retirement, Jim enjoyed traveling with his wife Willie, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Turner is survived by his wife, daughters Viki and Wendy, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the American Heart Association or the food pantry at St. Kilian Catholic Church. Cards and letters may be sent to the Communications Office, TUSD Administration Center, 300 South C Street, Tustin 92780, to be forwarded to the Turner family.
