entering military service

By Sentry Staff

Assistance League of Orange proudly hosted “Salute to Service,” a dinner held at the Chapter House to honor graduating high school students entering the military. Eighteen cadets from El Modena, Orange, Orange Lutheran and Villa Park High Schools, along with 36 family guests, were treated to a BBQ dinner.

The program began with a flag ceremony led by Staff Sergeant Kevin Adcock, with the assistance of Orange High School Color Guard. Justine Herbold, a cadet from Orange Lutheran High School, led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Orange Community Master Chorale, 35 strong, under the direction of Mike Short, sang “America” and “Salute to the Armed Forces,” during which each cadet identified their military affiliation and was individually recognized.

Former Villa Park High School graduate, Staff Sergeant Greg Carrier provided inspiration to the enlisted men and women as current member of the USAF Ready Reserve. Major Shane Yates, U.S. Army Brigade Chaplain gave the invocation and blessing before dinner.

Each honoree took home a souvenir program and an American Freedom Red Rose, donated by the Enchanted Florist in Orange.
