This column might give you an idea for a special celebration – birthday, anniversary or just because the sun came up again.
It’s very worth the short drive to La Mirada for a dinner and theatre affair. There is not a bad seat in the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, and its numerous events are varied and highly professional. More about that later.
For an excellent steakhouse dinner, head to Mr. V’s. Here you will find an extensive menu that includes not only steaks, chops, ribs and seafood, but a list of alternate entrées that run the gamut from Creole to Chinese, Mediterranean to Italian. On a recent visit, Frank chose a top sirloin steak, and I couldn’t resist the charred pork chop.
This restaurant prides itself on its ‘certified steaks’ and the first mouthful makes the diner a believer. Both meats were tender and delicious, done just right and served in a generous quantity, along with a choice of two sides: baked potato, creamed spinach, sautéed mushrooms or asparagus.
Of course there are salads – side size or as a meal, and soups by the bowl or cupful.
A helpful, cheerful staff and a cozy, wood-paneled atmosphere make this a welcoming spot. Prices are a shade above average, but, after all, this is a special occasion.
Pre-theater dinner absolutely needs a reservation, Mr. V’s has a full bar for a post-theater nightcap. Or, at lunch, there are freshly-made sandwiches, burgers and paninis, with steak fries, cole slaw, pasta salad or fresh fruit.
About the theater: La Mirada produces high–quality musicals, solo performances, plays and concerts. Next month, “South Pacific” will be featured, and the Broadway-acclaimed “Newsies-The Musical” is coming in June; Clint Black, Rita Rudner and Donny and Marie Osmond are slated to headline during the coming months. A lobby bar provides your choice of libation, which may be taken to your seat.
