Andrea Yamasaki Trustee Area 1
Trustee Andrea Yamasaki was elected in 2016 to serve on the OUSD school board. During her short tenure, she visited all 43 schools to see firsthand the needs of each site. She wants students to have access to safe and upgraded facilities, and a well-rounded education that will prepare them for college and/or the workforce. Andrea will ensure that the district is conservative in its fiscal management of resources and the bond implementation.
She is committed to understanding the needs and concerns of parents and students by staying actively engaged in the community. She is on the board of the Orange Community Council of PTAs, Canyon High Foundation and Education Foundation Anaheim Hills. She has demonstrated her commitment, prior to being a trustee, by devoting over 15,000 volunteer hours in leadership positions in Canyon PTSA, El Rancho PTSA, CARE, Girl Scouts, Relay for Life and more.
She and her husband Tom, a technology executive and retired U.S. Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel, have lived in the community for over 23 years and have three children who attended OUSD schools.
Tim Surridge Trustee Area 5
As an experienced educator with work history as a classroom teacher, varsity basketball coach, technology integration specialist, school administrator, and currently as OUSD governing board member, I have always placed the student’s best interests as the north star guiding all of my efforts. School safety and the security of our campuses continues to be of highest priority for me.
As a board member, my efforts and influence have directly led to OUSD reinstating elementary art and music in every district school, a district-wide adoption of Automated Exterior Defibrillators (AED’s), an emphasis on expanded Career Technology Education, and I am a stalwart supporter of OUSD’s charter schools. I also voted to stop the implementation of a new sex education curriculum until our local community and parents have had opportunity to review, modify and understand their rights in regard to its instructional content. My wife and I have lived in Orange for over 30 years and love this community. Shelly is a Nationally Board Certified Teacher at a local parochial elementary school.
Sean Griffin Trustee Area 7
Hello, I’m Sean Griffin. For the past twenty years, I have been dedicated to public education as a teacher and department chair for students receiving special education services.
I want to utilize my experience to foster community participation, focus our resources on educating our children, and helping teachers get adequate resources while creating positive school environments.
On behalf of all students, I will listen and work collaboratively with our parents, teachers, administration, staff, and fellow board members to provide: a safe school environment, fiscal accountability and transparency, and equitable opportunities for students to thrive in their academic pursuits.
As a parent, I’ve been fortunate to be highly involved in my step-son’s schooling. As a student with disabilities, he greatly benefited from the investment and care given by OUSD schools. It’s incredibly important to me to work to ensure this district remains committed to meeting the needs across our school’s diverse student population.
On Nov. 6, I ask for your vote to continue to make OUSD the best place for students to learn and grow.
Rick Ledesma Trustee Area 7
I’m proud to serve as your Orange Unified School District Governing Board Member. As a graduate of Orange Unified School District schools, I want to continue giving back to the schools that gave me a quality education.
My record as your board member includes: Orange Unified’s first-ever National Blue-Ribbon School; 18 Orange Unified schools named as California Distinguished Schools; increased test scores; carefully scrutinizing spending of taxpayer dollars; and standing up to educational bureaucrats.
With my career in finance, I have unique insight into budgeting processes and management. My wife of 20 years and I are raising our children in our community, and I’m dedicated to making the best decisions for the families of the Orange Unified School District.
Over the next four years, I’ll continue to:
Oppose the current sex education curriculum being pushed by Sacramento; promote safe schools;
endorse a back to basics education; advance technology education; oppose Common Core; approve and protect charter schools; and fight for transparency and accountability of your taxpayer dollars.
Kris Erickson Trustee Area 5
As a product of OUSD and a parent who sent my children to OUSD schools, I know the importance of strong public schools that reflect our community’s values. I care deeply about our community and am passionate about building a functional school board that’s ethical, transparent, and puts students first. We must be diligent about protecting our students, ensuring responsible fiscal policy, and building strong schools that protect our investments in our homes and community.
As a parent leader at multiple levels in OUSD for over 15 years, I’ve developed a clear understanding of the challenges we face. My varied experience as a parent, local homeowner and business owner, leader in education-oriented organizations, and advocate for students, make me the ideal person to meet those challenges.
I’m committed to listening to all perspectives to work toward our common goal of maximizing student achievement. I have the heart of a parent and volunteer, the mind of an attorney, and the fiscal stewardship of a successful small businessperson and would be honored to serve as your Trustee.
Joe Ferrentino Trustee Area 4
My family has lived in Orange and Villa Park for 23 years and our three children have proudly attended OUSD schools. I have an economics degree from Cal Poly and over 20 years of experience working with architects, engineers, and contractors. I have also advised other high schools with large-scale improvements.
As exemplified by the recent closure of the El Modena swimming pool, our schools are falling apart. Between Measure S, Fred Kelly Stadium, and new tracks, OUSD recently approved an unprecedented $250 million for improvements to our high schools, and I will provide the project management experience and leadership that OUSD needs right now. As your School Board Trustee, I will make sure that our children receive the maximum benefit from these projects, hold the professionals accountable, and protect the district from waste and undue risk.
School safety, quality education, parents’ rights, advanced technology, and fiscal responsibility are all top priorities for me as well.
Let’s build a better future together for OUSD.

Kathy Moffat Trustee Area 4
OUSD is a District of Excellence with high-achieving schools, Teachers of the Year, and administrators who are statewide leaders. Over 70 percent of our schools are Gold Ribbon Schools, more than any Orange County school district. Cerro Villa Middle School is a National School to Watch. Richland Continuation School is a model in California. Canyon HS and Villa Park HS are nationally ranked academically; El Modena HS and Orange HS are reigning football champions!
Building upon the basics, OUSD innovates instruction with hands-on lessons, and integrates technology into classrooms. We offer arts programs, dual-language immersion in Spanish and Mandarin, and wide-ranging career pathways, from aviation, to culinary arts and video/film production.
Measure S modernization of science labs and classrooms is on time and on budget, and we’re renovating athletic fields using district savings.
I have contributed leadership to these outstanding achievements.
As a former teacher, PTA leader, and experienced trustee, my priorities are academics, student safety, and successful Measure S implementation. My service reflects integrity, dedication, fiscal responsibility and a strong connection to parents.
With your help, I will keep OUSD moving forward!
Sandra Angel Trustee Area 1
My name is Sandra Angel, and I have been an accounting professional for over 20 years, so I know how to get the most out of a tight budget.
If you are tired of seeing school district administrators getting hefty raises while students and teachers do without basic necessities, then I am your candidate for Orange Unified School District Board Member and that will change.
I raised three boys who went through our public school system. It saddens me to see all the policy changes that have taken place, not to mention the waste of construction bond money. I believe in fair and open negotiations of all school district contracts; but that is not what is happening. The overspending and waste are staggering.
As parents of OUSD youth, you have a right to know where your hard-earned tax dollars are going. If you believe as I do, that a healthy amount of skepticism and proven leadership skills at the community level is needed, please vote for me. It is time for much needed change.
