The Irvine Company has terminated the recreation management lease of Serrano Water District for Irvine Lake, effective March 31. Serrano Water officials said the land, including the lake and surrounding campsites, maybe included in the 2,500-acre parcel donated to the county by the Irvine Company last year. Operations at the recreational facility, including the 750-acre lake, fishing lagoon, and camping facility may be suspended as of March 31.
The site is nestled at the base of the Cleveland National Forest, off Chapman and East Santiago Canyon Road, and has been a popular, scenic fishing, camping and event location. Generations of children have learned to fish there; fishermen have enjoyed the well-stocked lake and numerous fishing tournaments. The rustic site was used for annual Villa Park city picnics, music and corporate events and weddings.
